§ 86-4. Terms of office.

  • (a)

    The terms of office of the mayor, the treasurer, the clerk and aldermen in the city shall be for such length of time as prescribed by the statutes of the state.

    (b)

    The term of office of newly elected officers of the city shall begin with their inauguration which shall not be later than the first regular or special meeting of the corporate authorities after receipt of the official election results from the county clerk. However, the time for inauguration of newly elected officers shall not be later than the first regular or special meeting of the corporate authorities in the month of June following the election. The term of preceding officers retiring from such positions with the city shall terminate upon the inauguration of such newly elected officers.
